Native speakers’ preference for the in situ position in spontaneous informal production, mostly oral, has already been established. Two new experiments show a perceptive bias in written form in native speakers, who either stigmatize this position or prefer the more formal fronted construction with verb-subject inversion. This bias, of socio-linguistic origin, must be considered when creating and analyzing experiments related to interrogative clauses of French.
